tree door repair
|
i was contacted by a client with broken tempered glass in a hand made custom 'tree' door. she had been to several glass shops, but none of them wanted anything to do with it. she was worried that if it couldn't be repaired, it would have to be replaced with a standard door. the 'tree' door was originally in a previous house and was so special to the family, they moved it to the new house. ![]() ![]() the damage occurred when a weed whacker whipped a small pebble into the tempered glass. this is not the first time i had to repair glass broken by a weed whacker pebble shot. i removed the door and boarded up the opening. ![]() ![]() i broke out all the loose glass and figured out how to separate the limbs. with a bit of prying and a lot of hope, i managed to disassemble the door components and clear out the glass opening. i then made a template for the new tempered glass. the glass had to be custom cut to the random opening shape. when the glass came in, i reassembled everything and the door was new again. ![]() the clients were thrilled, especially their children. i'll admit, i was nervous attempting this repair, but like the client said, "it's worth a shot, we have nothing to lose". |
